Avoncroft museum

Feeling a bit wintry? Or Christmassy even? I was, and so I visited the Avoncroft Museum of Buildings near Bromsgrove. Here I was able to wander among old structures, carefully relocated here from their original sites. This is an old Co-op shop from Shrewsbury (with a very nice cafe in it now!)

No, I didn't see Doctor Who...

...but the Museum has lots of old police boxes, AA and RAC boxes,...

...and telephone boxes. This version is obviously my favourite, but I'd forgotten how many types there used to be.

I wondered what was under this tarpaulin.

It was on old mission church

A (poor) shot of the interior

A small brick building...

...with a three-seater toilet inside.

A lovely old barn

And a beautiful grain store

From here you can see the windmill

It was too windy for sailing!

There's a good collection of chimneys. Amazing to see the intricately moulded brick.

Inside a chain maker's.

This is a medieval hall house...

...where the middle section (hall) is open to the roof. This is a view from an upstairs bedroom down to the table on the ground floor.

An Anderson shelter. Incredibly strong: with the corrugation and the curved roof - and often covered with soil - they could withstand massive blasts. Not much need in rural Worcestershire though!

A post war prefab - houses quickly erected to replace bombed homes, or to provide accommodation for returning soldiers.

Quite spacious inside...

...with a good kitchen

This toll house was just being restored

One of the bedrooms

A shepherd's hut

This was the Cockpit - it was from Bridgnorth, and was used for cock fighting. I hate the idea of that, but I could admire the glorious roof.

Another cottage through the trees.
I can really recommend a visit. There are special Christmas activities planned too. Normal admission is: Adult – £8.80    Senior – £7.70     Child (5+) – £4.50     Student – £4.50
Family ticket – £25.00     Under 5s – Free. Click here for opening times

Today's walk: about one mile taking the main route , but it be made more by walking around more! It's a good place to walk in the rain because there's plenty of shelter
