The sands are great, and there's a ferry over to Rock on the other side of the estuary
There's good shopping, of course - posh food, clothes, art,...
...and beach stuff!
We stayed just outside Padstow at Woodlands Country House - an upmarket B and B, which I thoroughly recommend.
I reviewed it on TripAdvisor
This was the view from our room - you can just see the sea near Trevone
The sitting room with honesty bar.
Woodlands serves the best breakfasts ever - homemade banana bread, and marmalade flapjack, home- made granola and muesli, friut compotes, daily specials,
...as well as the more traditional breakfast.
It's five minutes drive from Harlyn Bay
We went to Rick Stein's fish and chip shop for tea (Woodlands doesn't do evening meals)
You can queue to sit down if you want: we sat on the sea-front to eat ours.
Padstow in the early evening
This place seems to have gone up-market recently (it's Pucelli's, serving Italian food - haven't tried it, though)
And this place has always been up-market! It's Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant (which I've never tried) This picture is from November's blog
If you would like to see pictures of my walks around this area, just look over the previous three days - You can't beat the South West Coast Path, because the waymarking is excellent. The posts also contain a link to the bus timetable, so you can do out and back of various lengths. Padstow to Harlyn Bay - 6.5 miles. Harlyn Bay to Porthcothan, 7 miles. Either walk can be done in reverse.
Or you can cross the estuary by ferry, and walk from Rock, past Daymer Bay, to Polzeath, or out round the headland (buses are less frequent here, so out and back is best)
Or go all out, and get a bus to Port Isaac (Doc Martin) and back along the coast path to Rock (about 12 miles, 9 of which is classified as strenuous!) I have details if you need them
