Kinver walks: Chance wood and the Hyde in the snow

Starting from Greensforge Lane I walked down the path between the houses

There had been some snow..

...entering the woods, I turned right into Chance Wood Nature Reserve (Click for details) run by the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust

Most of the snowdrops weren't out yet. I zoomed in for this shot, as I didn't want to stand on any others!

There are some old gravestones in the woods, many stacked against the trees these days
 They commemorate Victorian dogs

Looking down towards the River Stour

Back on the main path, some small sandstone cliffs

...with blue sky above

Arriving at the Hyde, the sign is a reminder of the very industrial past of this lovely spot. Slitting mills, water mills and a nail mill.

You can get here by horse if you don't want to walk.
I read that  "At the Hyde was a tilting mill, spade and shovel manufactory and corn mill". Click here for more

Most of the buildings are now residential

This house was once two storeys. The third was added relatively recently. About 15 years ago

An array of letter boxes - saves the postie walking far.

Continuing towards the Hyde, a good view of distant Kinver Edge

The route of the old Kinver Light Railway (I'm following some of their walks, on and off)

Frozen car windscreen. The ice was really solid. Thankyou for letting me photograph you!
Tomorrow - Hyde Lock and the canal.
The route:from Greensforge Lane, along the path, through Chance Wood to the Hyde, then along the canal to the Stewponey, turning left onto the path opposite the Stourton Castle entrance, and back up through the woods again. About 2.9 miles
