Continuing along Greensforge Lane, I admired the wintry hedge outlines,...
...another timeless scene (except perhaps for the tarmac).
Reaching the turn for the Navigation.
The Navigation pub. New windows, but probably just the same as 80 years ago. Interesting to see the cyclist. Apart from this, I only saw cyclists on the canal towpath - possible these days because of improvements to tyres.
Looking back at the pub and lock.
The canal stretched inviting ahead
Narrow boats near Ashwood Nurseries.
As I reached these boats, a heron flew up,...
...and over the power lines
Flatheridge Bridge. How to pronounce? Flat - heridge? Or Flather -idge?
The garden belonging to Ashwoods
...with ghostly shapes of deer on t he lawnA last flash by the sun
More boats. It's a lovely place to keep them
The isolated Rocky Lock...cut from the sandstone
This circular overflow weir is quite unusual, and seems to be unique to this part of the Staffs and Worcs Canal
Another reminder of how Rocky Lock got its name
To be continued...
Tried the walk on New Year's Day and really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteParked up on the bridge at Stourton and walked to Greensforge Lane, a pint (or two) in the Navigation and then a stroll along the canal back to Stourton.
Lovely walk and thanks for posting
