This is Hyde Lock. I'm always amused by the massive television aerials!
Another glimpse of Kinver Edge beside the slightly drunken canal sign
I was heading towards the Stewponey
The occupants of this narrow boat must have been very warm: this woodsmoke is from their stove
The weak winter sun reflecting in the water
This is a lovely part of the world.
The canal enters a sandstone cutting: worryingly propped up by these brick pillars.
Dunsley tunnel goes right through the end of this sandstone ridge
This picture shows why the canal doesn't just detour round it: the River Stour is right by it
The 21m-long tunnel is hewn straight from the rock at first
But halfway through, it is brick-reinforced at a lower level. Responsible for many cracked heads over the years!
Just next to the tunnel, Dunsley Hall Hotel
The final bit tomorrow
The route: from Greensforge Lane, along the path, through Chance Wood to the Hyde, then along the canal to the Stewponey, turning left onto the path opposite the Stourton Castle entrance, and back up through the woods again. About 2.9 miles
