As well as other seasonal goods, I was pleased to notice that Barnett Hill Nurseries still actually sell plants. In addition to the rather splendid cakes.
They are completely refurbishing their old gardens at the moment, so there wasn't much greenery about
Back on the path these horses were sharing some hay. The grey horse was eating twice as fast as his companions though!
Looking over to the Abberley Hills
The path was still easy to follow
Though it was sunny the snow still lay crispy in the shade
The back of the nurseries
Almost this whole route is through horse pasture
Then suddenly, this.
It's called Ladies Pool. Mostly frozen today.
Warning to the many riders in the area.
Reflections in the thawed part
This rather battered sign explains that there are many pools in the area, most of which were adjacent to watermills
Back on the path. The tree line on the horizon is the start of the walk
Back at the car
I walked about 3.25 miles, plus a half mile cafe detour (there is a quicker way).
Apart from one extremely boggy bit, the paths are in good condition and quite easily walked. A good view:effort ratio, though there is a little climbing. One for repeating at different times of the year.
Walk details. A circuit starting on Sandy Lane, following bridle paths to Barnett Hill, and then back by New Wood Farm, past a lake, to return to Sandy Lane. Difficult to describe quickly, but easy to follow. Email me if you'd like detailed walk notes.
