Stourport Circuit Part 2

So here we are at Lincomb Lock. It's a big river lock, operated by a lock-keeper, not by the boaters

Past the lock, the path heads towards some high sandstone cliffs...

...where I turned left along this path

These are wood anemones - the first ones I've seen this year. They grow in old undisturbed woodland.

The route took me through this caravan park, which was very well landscaped, with wooded areas, and this small lake.

On the far side of the park is this lane, leading to the Worcester Road, which I followed for about 200m (there's a good pavement) and then crossed over, onto Hartlebury Common.

There were lots of paths to choose: I chose the one on the top of the ridge.

Great views of the Abberley Hills

Very sandy on the top!

After passing the second set of power lines, I headed down towards these houses, ...

...crossing into Mill Road

The fast flowing stream which must once have served the mill

This may have been the mill house, but it's dilapidated now.

Then I joined the Staffs and Worcs Canal towpath.

An interesting pedestrian bridge, which seemed to lead to a church. (I must investigate another time)

Gilgal Bridge (strange name!)

Canals often have interesting industrial architecture nearby, and Stourport has plenty.

The view towards Stourport lock

Looking back.
Tomorrow - Stourport's canal basin, famous to canal enthusiasts from all over the country.

The route: from the riverside car park, along the Severn to Lincombe Lock. Then through the woods to Lincombe Caravan park, and over the Worcester Road to Hartlebury Common. Down Mill Lane, to join the canal, and back to Stourport Marina. About 5 miles - with lots of options to make it a bit shorter.
