Kinver Walk part 2 - Whittington and more

Walk continued from yesterday...down the hill from the church, and turn right...

...and then almost immediately left onto this clearly defined path which goes downhill towards the Stour, and the canal
This used to be the Anchor Inn. Now private houses

The Stour nearby

Sunshine on the houses by the Horse Bridge

Snowdrops with a flash of yellow (aconites?) just by the bridge
And blossom just coming out. Could this be spring?

The path from t he bridge is easy to follow...

...and it ends in the Whittington car park

The Whittington Inn has links to Dick Whittington - and may also have sheltered Charles II when he was on the run after the battle of Worcester.

The sign says they serve coffee. I thought I't go in through this door to have a cup (well, it was a cold day). But it was locked. Someone later told me you have to go in through the annex. Who knew?

Ah, the donkeys are still there.

Very keen to say hello to visitors

And to pose, too.

Back on the canal, along the well-walked path on the opposite side to the tow-path

The River Stour runs very close to the canal here. (It's the one on the left: the canal is higher)

Through the trees, just visible, is the St Peter's church  - from earlier in the walk.

Back at the wonderfully named "Gibraltar"

Kinver Lock
This was Walk 2 from the old leaflet for tourists who came to Kinver via canal. Reproduced here:
(I did the walk anti-clockwise)

Today's walk. Part of a circular walk of 2.5 miles - from the Acre car park in the centre of Kinver, up the path to the church, across to the Whittington Inn, and back via the canal and Gibraltar. Although it's a short walk, it is quite strenuous, and not to be underestimated.
