Lincoln - an easy walk along the River Witham to the cathedral

I was on a trip to Lincoln, where parking is difficult. So I left the car 3 miles away in Washingborough, and followed the Spires and Steeples route

The Washingborough mosaic society have put little mosaics all round the village

The route went along a dyke typical of the Lincolnshire landscape,..

...with lots of waterside grasses.

We eventually reached the River Witham
It is navigable, and there were even a few narrow boats
Lincoln cathedral stood out on the far horizon
The path was easy to follow, and very flat!
It went along what was originally a railway to Boston
The cathedral getting nearer
Reaching Lincoln there was an unusual canal lock

Where the second set of gates would be, there was a kind of guillotine

There were lots of footbridges...
...and then we reached Lincoln itself
Tomorrow, more from this walk

Today's route: Walk from Washingborough village along the river to Lincoln. About 3.5 miles each way. The easiest of walking.
